Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is the main peptide of the endothelin family and is involved in a variety of biological processes in vascular and non-vascular tissues, including the heart, kidney, and central nervous system.At the cellular level, the action of ET-1 is mediated by two specific receptor isoforms, ETA and ETB, which are functionally coupled to phospholipase C (PLC).The C-terminal fragment of the ET family polypeptide is a highly conserved sequence because the C-terminal fragment activates only ETB, which can be used to distinguish between ETA and ETB two ET receptor isoforms.
